Scotland in Style: A Seamless Family Journey Through History, Golf, and Highland Magic
Joe, Marie, their son Sean, and his partner Sarah recently returned from a picture-perfect journey through Scotland that we were thrilled to design.
They had a shared interest in golfing iconic courses, experiencing the natural beauty of the Highlands, and making it all the way to the western isles for a deeper connection with Scotland’s rugged, remote landscapes. The itinerary came together smoothly, creating space for the family to explore Scotland at their own pace, with a sense of ease throughout.
Their adventure began in Edinburgh, Scotland’s historic and cultural capital. On day one, our private guide led them on a fascinating walking tour through the cobbled streets of the Royal Mile, uncovering centuries of stories and secrets. From the towering Edinburgh Castle to the tucked-away corners of the Old Town, the city set the perfect tone for their trip. That evening, they descended into the eerie and captivating world of The Real Mary King’s Close, exploring Edinburgh’s subterranean past beneath the city streets.
The next day, the pace slowed as the family enjoyed a scenic day trip to Kingsbarns Golf Links, one of our favorite spots just outside the city. With sweeping coastal views and world-class greens, it offered a relaxing and scenic outing for the golf lovers in the group.
From there, the family journeyed north to St Andrews, the birthplace of golf. Joe and Sean teed off on the legendary Old Course, a bucket-list experience and cherished father-son bonding time. Meanwhile, Marie and Sarah indulged in a refined afternoon tea at one of our favorite spots in town with a view, because a well-balanced itinerary means something for everyone.
Next on their route was heading west to the Isle of Skye, with plenty of castle stops and iconic landmarks along the way. Sean even embraced the wild spirit of the Highlands with a refreshing dip in one of Skye’s famous Fairy Pools. In the evening, the family was treated to a magical moment: a lone bagpiper playing traditional Scottish melodies in a serene setting of Cairn Memorial.
The following day brought them by ferry from Skye to Mallaig, where they caught a glimpse of the Jacobite steam train crossing the iconic viaduct. A scene made famous by the Harry Potter films. Their journey continued to Glencoe, where they took in sweeping views of Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest peak.
Their final night was spent in a charming countryside boutique hotel near Crianlarich, offering the perfect peaceful end to their Highlands adventure. The next morning, they were just a short drive from Glasgow Airport, where they boarded their flight to London to begin the next stop of their European journey.
From ancient cities and iconic golf courses to folklore landscapes and luxury stays, this Scotland trip was the kind of family getaway we love to plan: seamless, personal, and filled with unforgettable moments.
